Makila

More than 2,120 Makila turboshaft engines have been produced by Turbomeca to date, totalling close to 8 million flight hours, with 90 customers in 50 countries. The Makila now powers a number of twin-engine helicopters, including Eurocopter Super Puma, Cougar and EC 725-225, and the Denel Aviation Rooivalk attack helicopter.

The Makila is a turboshaft powerplant in the 1,300 kW class (1,700 shp) with growth potential to 1,800 kW (2,400 shp). It is offered in 5 versions: 1A, 1A1, 1A2, 1K2 and 2. The latest version, the Makila 2, offers 14% more power than the current Makila 1A2 and has the capability to deliver 1,567 kW (2,100 shp) at take-off.

The Makila 2 powers the twin-engine Eurocopter EC 725 military helicopter. The Makila 2 also powers the EC 225 civil version of this helicopter. The first flight of the EC 725 took place in November 2000. The first flight of four EC 725 ordered by the french Air Force was made in October 2002. successfully carried out its maiden flight in October 2002.
